Legal Governance Manager | Westville, Durban

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Legal Governance Manager to join a leading international organisation based in Durban. This is a senior, commercially focused role for an admitted attorney who can operate as a trusted legal advisor to executive leadership while taking ownership of commercial legal matters, corporate governance and legal risk across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and commercially focused legal advice to senior management and executives.

  • Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial contracts and agreements.

  • Advise on legal risk across commercial, operational and strategic matters.

  • Oversee corporate governance requirements, including Companies Act and King IV compliance.

  • Support Board, Committee and Shareholder governance processes.

  • Manage litigation, disputes, claims and external legal counsel.

  • Support mergers, acquisitions, restructuring and strategic business initiatives.

  • Advise on cross-border transactions and regulatory matters.

  • Maintain legal registers, statutory records and governance documentation.

  • Drive improvements in legal processes, contract management and legal risk practices.

Key Requirements:

  • LLB Degree

  • Admitted Attorney

  • Minimum 5+ years’ relevant legal experience, ideally with strong in-house exposure.

  • Excellent commercial contract drafting and negotiation experience.

  • Strong corporate governance and legal risk management knowledge.

  • Experience working closely with senior executives and key business stakeholders.

  • Sound knowledge of the Companies Act and King IV.

  • Experience managing litigation and disputes.

  • Experience within international trade, logistics, shipping, supply chain, manufacturing or a multinational environment would be highly advantageous.
