Financial Accountant | Durban

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Financial Accountant to oversee the creditors function while ensuring accurate financial reporting, robust financial controls and statutory compliance. This role combines hands-on accounting with team leadership and process improvement, playing a key role in maintaining the integrity of the finance function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the full creditors function, ensuring accurate invoice processing, supplier reconciliations and timely payments.

  • Review financial transactions, journals and general ledger balances to ensure accuracy and integrity.

  • Prepare and review monthly management accounts, reconciliations, accruals and month-end reporting.

  • Ensure compliance with VAT, SARS and other statutory requirements, maintaining audit-ready financial records.

  • Strengthen internal controls, identify process improvements and drive finance automation initiatives.

  • Supervise and develop the creditors team, ensuring deadlines, accuracy and service standards are consistently achieved.

  • Partner with operational stakeholders to provide accurate financial information that supports business decision-making.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Accounting or Finance.

  • Professional registration (SAIPA, SAIBA, CIMA or similar) will be advantageous.

  • Minimum 5 years’ accounting experience, including at least 2 years overseeing a creditors or accounts payable function.

  • Strong knowledge of VAT, statutory compliance and financial reporting.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Experience within a retail, automotive, manufacturing or stock-driven environment will be advantageous.
