Risk & Compliance Specialist | Durban

Our client is seeking an experienced Risk & Compliance Specialist to lead and manage the Safety, Health, Environment and Compliance (SHE) management system across multiple operational sites. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, ISO standards and internal governance requirements while driving a proactive culture of safety, risk management and continuous improvement throughout the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the organisation’s SHE management system.

• Develop and execute SHE strategies and operational plans aligned with business objectives.

• Ensure compliance with all applicable SHE legislation, legal requirements and ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.

• Maintain legal registers and manage compliance with regulatory licences and statutory requirements.

• Develop, implement and maintain SHE policies, procedures, protocols and work instructions.

• Coordinate and lead internal and external ISO audits, certification activities and management reviews.

• Conduct legal compliance audits and ensure corrective and preventative actions are effectively implemented.

• Lead risk assessments, hazard identification, aspect and impact assessments, and maintain risk registers.

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to minimise operational risk and improve SHE performance.

• Monitor and report on SHE objectives, key performance indicators and compliance metrics.

• Facilitate incident investigations, root cause analyses and the implementation of corrective actions.

• Deliver training on SHE legislation, ISO standards, risk management, incident investigations and compliance requirements.

• Promote a strong safety culture through stakeholder engagement, communication and leadership.

• Manage SHE-related communication with internal and external stakeholders.

• Support managers in creating and maintaining a safe, compliant and legally sound working environment.

Key Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Compliance or a related field (minimum NQF Level 7).

• ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 Internal Auditor certification is advantageous.

• SAMTRAC & NEBOSH or an equivalent safety qualification is advantageous.

• Environmental Health & Safety qualification is advantageous.

• Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a Risk and Compliance role.

• Previous experience within a manufacturing or automotive environment.

• Experience conducting audits, risk assessments and implementing compliance programmes.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.

• Strong communication, stakeholder management and training facilitation abilities.

• Ability to influence change and drive continuous improvement across multiple sites.
